Intermediate Abstract Algebra (MAT 444), spring 2012

Final Exam:-The Final Exam will take place on Thursday 4/26 from 7:30 to 9:20 am in PSA 304. To study for the exam, I would recommend reviewing the class notes and homework assignments, and coming to see me if anything remains unclear.

Lectures: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-10:15 am in PSA 304.

Material: The textbook is A Book of Abstract Algebra by C. Pinter, Dover Publications. We will be roughly covering chapters 2-30 (so, groups, rings and fields), with possible additional topics according to time and interest.

Homework: Assignments will be given on-line each week, usually by Wednesday, and will be due in class the following Tuesday.

Exams: There will be two Midterm exams and a Final. The Midterm exams will take place during class time on Tuesday 2/7 and Tuesday 3/13. The Final will take place on Thursday 4/26 from 7:30 to 9:20 am in PSA 304 (standard University calendar).

Grading: Homework, (the 2 Midterms) and the Final will each count for a third of the final grade.
