Seminar Schedule:<http://math.la.asu.edu/~tom/cognition/math+cogsched.html>
On Tuesday, September 30, at 12:15 PM in GWC 604, the Mathematics
and Cognition Seminar will
present brief lecture by Dr. Tom Taylor on the topic of
"Mathematical Models of Team Performance: A Distributed Decision-Making Approach"
followed by a round table discussion.
Abstract.
| In this talk I will present a 1992 article of the same title by Kleinman et al. The basic metaphor of this article is of individual decision making as signal detection theory coupled with a Kalman filter approach to estimating relative likelihood. Inputs to the Kalman filter include direct physical observation in the form of mean and variance, and input from team members, again in the form of a mean and variance measuring confidence in team member's reliability. Results of the fitting such models to experimental studies of team performance suggest that team members overestimate their own reliability and underestimate reliability of their team members. |
