Abstract Studies of infants and young children that involve either (i) the movement of objects in space or (ii) the representation of objects in drawings will be discussed. The main focus will be on what such studies can tell us (a) about humans' sensitivity, early in life, to regularities in physical events and (b) about possible ways in which children's notions of space, form, geometry and systems of graphic representation may develop..
