Mathematics and Cognition  Seminar

Fall 2002

Tuesdays 12:15  Goldwater 604

(Supported in part by the Systems Science and Engineering Research Center)

Seminar Schedule:<http://math.la.asu.edu/~tom/cognition/math+cogsched.html>

The Mathematics and Cognition will
present our next lecture on Tuesday, October 8, at 12:15 PM in GWC 604.
Our speaker will be Mike McBeath of the Department of Psychology,
who will speak on the topic:

"Instantiating Human Ball Catching Heuristics with Robots"

Abstract.

I will share findings of collaborative work in human and robotic ball catching. We are testing to see if proposed viewer-based ball catching heuristics for humans can be instantiated with robots. The findings both support the feasibility of the proposed heuristics and help clarify several hidden assumptions in perceptual modeling. They also bring to light several interesting parallels between human and robotic spatial representations.
