MAT 571 Real Analysis II

John Quigg Spring 2009

Grading

I use an unusual grading scale, which I explain here:
6-point scale:
6 Correct, or essentially correct
5 Mostly correct, but a minor error
4 A major error, or several minor errors
3 A valid strategy, but several major errors
2 Something positive toward a solution, but not much
1 Something relevant, but minimal; no apparent valid strategy
0 Nothing relevant toward a solution

grade cutoffs:
5.67 A+
5.33 A
5.00 A-
4.67 B+
4.33 B
4.00 B-
3.67 C+
3.00 C
2.00 D
0.00 E

weights:
80% homework
20% presentations

Of course, life is never simple, so I take into account such matters as class participation and the overall distribution of final averages.
