COURSE PREFIX/NUMBER MAT 571 TITLE OF COURSE Real Analysis II INSTRUCTOR John Quigg TIME 1:30-2:45 TTH LOCATION GIOS L1-04 LINE # 18614 COURSE DESCRIPTION This is the second half of a basic graduate-level course in real analysis. The topics to be covered are: Introduction to General Topology, including the Stone-Weierstrass and Arzela-Ascoli Theorems. Introduction to Functional Analysis, including the Baire Category, Open Mapping, and Closed Graph Theorems, and the Uniform Boundedness Principle. Radon measures and the dual space of C(X). Time permitting, we may also have an Introduction to Fourier Analysis, and possibly some further topics of interest to (myself and) the class; for example: more Functional Analysis and/or Topological Groups. There will be some homework assignments, at least one presentation, and no exams. PREREQUISITES Familiarity with Lebesgue integration and abstract measures. MAT 570 is sufficient, but not necessary.
