Read the Paul Lockhart Essay. This should evoke some significant response. You choose the way that you feel most compelled to respond (e.g., by writing your own essay, by working and extending the problems Lockhart uses as examples or creating and exploring your own, by interviewing students, administrators and teachers about the ideas in the essay, by proposing small or large ways to engage students in the kind of reasoning described by Lockhart, etc.). Since this is 10% of your grade, however you choose to respond, be sure to show you have taken it seriously and learned something for yourself during the process.
