Parallel Critical-Value/P-Value Approach

·        A Problem: For hypothesis testing, some instructors prefer to concentrate on the critical-value approach, others prefer to concentrate on the P-value approach, others want to present both approaches, and still others want the flexibility to choose different approaches for different topics.

·        A Solution:  For each hypothesis testing method, provide dual step-by-step procedures, one for the critical-value approach and the other for the P-value approach. Present the illustrative example that follows the dual procedures in parallel. This gives complete flexibility in the coverage of hypothesis testing—either one or both approaches to hypothesis testing can be studied and/or compared.

·        Generalities:  Generic steps for the two approaches. Observe that the first three steps are common to both approaches.

·        Example: One-Sample t-Test for a Population Mean.
