This copy of MATLAB is for your use while you are a student in     
the course that requires this software.  The ASU math department     
is lending this software to you under a site license agreement     
with The MathWorks,Inc.     
     
The software provided here is a DOS version, version 3.5 .  The     
most recent version is a WINDOWS version, 5.0 .  This DOS version     
runs under WINDOWS 95 and it has been enhanced with some extra     
row operation commands that fit in well with a linear algebra     
course. This program will run on any 486 or Pentium PC and will     
run on a 386 PC with math coprocessor.     
     
    
Perform the following steps to install MATLAB on your computer.     
  
1. Create a folder named MATLAB somewhere on your hard drive.       

2. Click here to download the file MATSETUP.EXE to your MATLAB     
   folder.        

3. From the MATLAB folder double click on MATSETUP.EXE . This     
   creates subfolders BIN, MATLAB and ROWOP in the original      
   MATLAB folder.     

4. Identify the file MATLAB.BAT in the BIN subfolder. This is the     
   file that starts MATLAB.  Create a shortcut to MATLAB.BAT and     
   copy it to the desktop or whatever menu folder you work from.     

5. Adjust the properties of of the shortcut by right clicking the     
   mouse on it and choosing PROPERTIES at the bottom of the menu:     

   a) Click PROGRAM tab. Change "Normal Window" to "Maximized".     
      Place a check in the "Close on Exit" box.     
   b) Click MEMORY tab and replace "auto" with "1024" in the      
      "initial environment" window.     
   c) Click SCREEN tab and choose "full screen" .     
   d) Click the OK button at the bottom of the screen.     

6. MATLAB has been set up and can be started by double clicking     
   on the shortcut icon.     

7. A "Brief Manual" for using this program in a linear algebra
   course can be viewed from within the program.  You can also 
   print or save the manual to a file by clicking here.  Print or
   save it by choosing the appropriate command from the "FILE"
   menu on the Menu Bar.
