This syllabus is subject to changes.  Changes will be announced in class.

Grading is based on quizzes+homework (200 points) the 2 exams (each 100 points) and the comprehensive final exam (200 points).

Quizzes will cover mostly definitions.

You are required to attend all classes and quizzes will not necessarily be announced.  It is imperative that you do not fall behind.

Suggestions:

1. Make sure you do all the homework.

2. Learn the precise definitions of the terms.  If you don’t know the precise definitions of the terms you can’t possibly understand what is being said in class and in the textbook.  You will be tested on these definitions.  You will be quizzed on definitions throughout the semester.  Definitions will have to be given as complete sentences.

3. To study for the exams do the problems on the old exams (available on my homepage).

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY!

In the “Student Academic Integrity Policy” manual, ASU defines “’Plagiarism” [as] using another's words, ideas, materials or work without properly acknowledging and documenting the source. Students are responsible for knowing the rules governing the use of another's work or materials and for acknowledging and documenting the source appropriately.”  You can find this definition at:

http://www.asu.edu/studentaffairs/studentlife/judicial/academic_integrity.htm#definitions

Academic dishonesty, including inappropriate collaboration and copying homework answers from another source, will not be tolerated. There are severe sanctions for cheating, plagiarizing and any other form of dishonesty.
