The Putnam Exam will be held this year on Saturday, December 3, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This is an exam which is taken by thousands of undergraduate students across North America. It is considered to be one of the biggest challenges that an undergraduate math student will face. The exam consists of two sets of problems, with six problems each, and while some problems may use advanced mathematics, the test- writers claim that there are at least two problems which only require algebra and creativity to solve. More details can be found at the math department's undergraduate webpage, and if you're interested in participating, you should send an e-mail to Christopher Heckman (checkman@math.asu.edu) by October 7. Be sure to include your ASU ID number in the e-mail. Thank you. -- Christopher Heckman, Putnam Coach
