Access to the homework and exam solutions is now restricted to students currently enrolled in MAT 342 C. To login, use your last name (in capital letters) for User ID, and your student number (all 9 digits, no hyphens) for Password.
There will be 15 homework assignments, worth 10 points each, due each Tuesday at the start of class. Late homework will not be accepted, but the lowest 3 of your homework scores will be dropped. Students are encouraged to work together on the homework, but you are required to write up and turn in the assignments individually. Be sure your papers are neat, labelled, and stapled before class; illegible or incomprehensible work will not get credit. Incidentally, there is no educational value in copying textbook solutions directly into your homework.
We will have three 90-minute midterm exams, worth 100 points each, and a comprehensive final exam worth 140 points. The midterms will be administered in the Math Testing Center in PSA 21. Each student is responsible for taking each exam on the scheduled day, and for timing their exam themselves; any exam which is out for more than 90 minutes will be penalized. Bring a picture ID and the label you will receive in class with you to the testing center for each exam. It is recommended that you get to the testing center well before they stop admitting students (usually 6:30pm), since there is often a wait to get in.
| Exam 1 | Wednesday, September 13 | 8:00am-6:30pm | PSA 21 |
| Exam 2 | Wednesday, October 11 | 8:00am-6:30pm | PSA 21 |
| Exam 3 | Wednesday, November 15 | 8:00am-6:30pm | PSA 21 |
| Final Exam | Tuesday, December 12 | 12:20pm-2:10pm |
Final grades for this course will be assigned according to the following scheme:
| Homework | 120 points |
| Midterm Exams | 100 points each |
| Final Exam | 140 points |
| Total | 560 points |
A grade of incomplete will be awarded only in the event that a documented emergency or illness prevents a student who is doing acceptable work from completing a small percentage of the course requirements. The guidelines in the current general ASU catalog regarding a grade of incomplete will be strictly followed.
No late homework will be accepted. Make-up midterm exams will be given at the instructor's discretion and only in the case of a verified medical or other emergency, or a conflicting university-sanctioned activity. When possible, the instructor must be notified before the exam is missed, and adequate documentation must be provided before the make-up will be given. Students participating in university-sanctioned activities need to identify themselves prior to missing class and provide the instructor with a copy of their travel schedule before arrangements will be made to make up missed work.
Exceptions to the final exam schedule and requests for make-up finals cannot be granted by the instructor. Please refer to the Department of Mathematics final exam policy for details.
The highest standards of academic integrity are expected of all students. The failure of any student to meet these standards may result in suspension or expulsion from the University, or other sanctions as specfied in the University Student Academic Integrity Policy. Violations of academic integrity include, but are not limited to: cheating, fabrication, tampering, plagiarism, or facilitating such activities.
