MAT 571, Spring 2006 Title: Real Analysis, II Instructor: Jack Spielberg Time: TuTh 3:15 - 4:30 Location: SS-304 Line #: 88839 Course description: This is the continuation of MAT 570. Topics to be covered include an introduction to general topology, elements of functional analysis, and the Riesz representation theorem. There will likely be some time at the end for an additional topic. Possibilities are an introduction to ergodic theory, a brief survey of spectral theory, or other as the group desires. For most of the course we will follow the text of Folland. There will be weekly problem sets and no exams. Prerequisites: MAT 570, or some knowledge of measure theory, or instructor approval.
