Title:To persist or not to persist

Abstract:A (deterministic model of an) ecological system is permanent (uniformly persistent) if all species coexist (if there is a compact global attractor in the interior of the state space).
An important question concerns the robustness of permanence,i.e., whether nearby systems are permanent as well. How well separated is the set of permanent systems from the set of nonpermanent systems?
