Text: Introduction to Mathematical Structures, S. Galovich.
Homework and Quizzes: There will be two types of homework in the class. Regular homework, assigned every week and a few (about three) assignments with more difficult problems. Regular homework will be collected every Friday. In addition, a short quiz may be given from time to time.
Tests: There will be two in-class tests. Make-up tests are at the discretion of the instructor. No make-up test will be given unless a student has notified the instructor before the test.
Test dates:
Test 1 - February 24.
Test 2 - April
21.
Writing Project: We will have a project that will involve writing a math paper (at least 5 pages) on one of the provided topics. Project is due March 26.
Final: The date of the final is May 12, 12:20-2:10pm.
Grading: Your final grade will be computed as follows: 20% - homework and quizzes, 30% - tests (15% each), 25% -final, 25% - project .
Grading scale: A : above 90%, B: 80% - 90%, C: 70% - 79%, D: 60%-69%, E: below 60%.
Important: It should be understood that all rules on the syllabus concerning grading are approximate, schedule of tests and material covered is tentative and is subject to change.
