Prerequisite: STP 420, STP 421, STP 427.

Textbook: A. Gelman, J. Carlin, H. Stern and D. Rubin, Bayesian Data Analysis, 2nd edition, Chapman and Hall/CRC

Additional Reference:
1. B. Carlin and T. Louis, Bayes and Emperical Bayes Methods for Data Analysis, 2nd edition, Chapman and Hall/CRC.
2. M.H. Chen, Q.M. Shao, and J. Ibrahim, Monte Carlo Methods in Bayesian Computation, Springer Verlag.


In addition, students will need to review the following: conditional densities, vector and matrix algebra, exponential family of distributions, multivariate normal models, Wishart distribution, Chi-squared distribution, goodness of fit tests.

Evaluation: All exams must be taken at the scheduled times unless legitimate and unavoidable reasons are shown to the instructor atleast 24 hours prior to the exam. Make-up exams are never given except for extreme circumstances.

Computers/Calculators and software: The students will need computers/calculators that can perform basic functions, which include computing factorials and taking numbers to powers. Learning R or/and WINBUGS is encouraged.

Academic Honesty: Academic honesty is fundamental to the activities and the principles of a university. If it is found that a student is cheating, he or she will receive 0 points for the assignment in question and be turned in to the Provost for further action. In addition, at the instructor's discretion, a student who commits an act of academic dishonesty may be subject to punitive actions. In particular, such a student may be given a failing grade regardless of the quality of their work beyond the act of academic dishonesty.

All work must be shown in the exam and any other written work.


Attendance Policy: Regular attendance is expected. All borderline grades shall be determined by the students' attendance throughout the semester and by their homework performances.
