Employment Opportunity for Assistant ProfessorStatisticsThe Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in the fall semester of 2008. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in biostatistics with a research emphasis in structural equation modeling and applications to environmental epidemiology. Candidates must also have post-doctoral experience and demonstrated potential for excellence in statistical research and teaching at all levels. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research and publish in the area of statistics and biostatistics, provide quality teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in theoretical and applied statistics and biostatistics, perform appropriate departmental and university service, and participate in University wide interdisciplinary statistics activities and appropriate professional service. The Tempe campus of Arizona State University has approximately 51,000 students and is located in the rapidly growing metropolitan Phoenix area, which provides a wide variety of recreational and cultural opportunities. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics currently has 51 full time faculty members including seven in a growing group of statisticians, and over 80 supported graduate students. The Department's undergraduate and graduate statistics programs are well established and of high-quality. Demand for statistical research and instruction at ASU is continuing to increase with numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, for example with the downtown Phoenix UofA College of Medicine, TGen, the Biodesign Institute (which includes Centers involving nanobiosciences, nanotechnology, bioengineering, genomics, and vaccinology), the Center for Environmental Studies, and many other projects spanning social sciences, education, and physical sciences. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to help shape the future direction of statistics at ASU. The Department has excellent computing resources, including a dedicated statistics server, access to high performance computing resources through the Fulton HPC, individual faculty workstations and access to the University's central computing facilities.
