Mission StatementThe Department of Mathematics provides instruction for non-science students and sophisticated mathematical training for future scientists and engineers, and shares with the College of Education the training of future teachers of mathematics. The Department is responsible for the education of its undergraduate majors and for providing education towards advanced degrees in the mathematical sciences. The Department of Mathematics promotes scholarship and research in the mathematical sciences by its faculty not only because of the intrinsic importance of creating knowledge but also because a stimulating intellectual environment invigorates the teaching of mathematics at all levels. In its role as a focal point for research in the mathematical sciences, it serves as a resource for local industry and the wider community. |
