MAT 598----SYLLABUS----Spring, 2007

Mathematical Models in Medicine

Medicine is the science and art dealing with the maintenance of health and the prevention,
alleviation, or cure of disease. In this course, we explore how mathematics can be applied to
improve the practice and art of medicine. In particular, we focus on the role mathematics
can play in understanding the etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis and morphology of
disease, as well as improving treatment.  The course will try to cover three types of diseases-
malignant neoplasia, viral infections, and dynamical diseases.
